LOWLITE: we are now down to just 4 Troopers who have made it to all of the reunions:
Ken Dye Jim Rinaldi, Keith Eaton, Dennis Perrino
HIGHLITE: in the past we have always acknowledged and encouraged our wives and families to get involved with the Troop. During the 2006 reunion the ladies had their own luncheon and this year the now annual event was another great success. JT took a group shot of just the ladies of the Cav at the end of the reunion dinner. After the Reunion dinner Keith Eaton was approached by a group of the ladies and asked if he would put together a SISTERHOOD of the Cav shirt for the ladies. Patricia Ivory volunteered to head up a Troop Cookbook unit as a fundraising project for the Troop monument project. Details on the cookbook will be in the newsletter.
Ken Dye presented a project for the Troop to support. As this is the 25th anniversary of the Viet Nam Memorial, a wreath will be presented at The Wall during this anniversary in remembrance of the Troop's KIA.
Brother Troopers,
I have some bad news. The Wreath project was an outstanding idea and Al Christine and I would have been honored to represent A Troop. I got ahold of the women in charge of the ceremony on Vets Day at the Wall and she told me they were limited to only 25 wreaths to be placed. The request were not being taken until last Monday, the 15th, and they have already gotten the 25 requests so we can't place a wreath this time.
The good news is that I have a florist in DC and this women name so if we ever decide to place a wreath I have the information. If there is another date that the Troop feels will work I would be honored to be as Coop says,"The boots on the ground". If anyone is thinking about going to the Wall for this ceremony please let me know as Linda and I may still make the trip to honor our fallen Cav Brothers.
Sorry this project didn't work out for us but at least our hearts are in the right place.
Peace, Brother Rag
JT sent an email out on the Commo Net 2/15/07 with the suggestion that the Troop undertake a project to place a monument in Armor Memorial Park at Fort Knox. The Troop agreed to undertake the project (with a projected cost of $10,000). The first fund raising project is the Troop CookBook. Should the monument project not meet its goal any funds raised for this project would be converted over to the Troop general operating fund.
AT THIS TIME WE HAVE TWO TROOPERS WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO BE PART OF THE MONUMENT PROJECT -- WE ARE STILL SEEKING A TROOPER TO TAKE OVER THE LEADERSHIP ROLE OF THE UNIT. HOW ABOUT YOU?????
Should you wish to donate money to the Monument Project, send your donations to Bob Taylor and please note on your check that it is for the Monument Project.
A group of Troopers went off to shoot clay pigeons and came back wanting to know why there were no tracer rounds or belts of ammo to fire at those poor little pigeons. Needless to say the pigeons had a good time and the Troopers were left saying just wait until next time.
For the Troopers who were unable to attend this year's reunion, you may notice something different in the photos. Even through Bob Taylor was unable to attend due to his cancer treatment we had a BOB THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND shirt make the rounds. Bob the shirt was seen during the business meeting (with a beer in of course); he was front and center during 2nd Plt Picture; he also had a front role seat (sitting on Bob Curnell lap -- what's up with that????) at the Troop Photo; and everyone wanted Bob to dine at their table during the reunion dinner but Neal Smith won out and Bob's shirt dined at Neal's table.
